Riverview Divorce Lawyers

Experience and Personal Service

Divorce is never easy. Even the friendliest of divorces can have a strong component of anxiety, regret and disappointment. If you are going through a divorce, make sure you hire attorneys who are on your side, with the experience to protect your interests throughout the process.

At Christmas Spano & Owen, P.A., we bring a wealth of family law experience. Our Riverview divorce attorneys have been helping clients in Riverview, Tampa, Clearwater, Tallahassee, and throughout Florida's South Shore for more than 55 combined years. We will take the time to listen to your story and to help you understand the legal process, so that you can make smart decisions in your case. We are on your side.

We represent clients in divorce-related matters that include:

  • Division of assets: This is one of the most important and highly contested aspects of divorce in Florida. In a divorce, the goal of the court is to distribute the assets with a marriage as equitably as possible (hence the title, "equitable distribution"), rather than using an exact equal split.
  • Parenting time: Another hotly debated issue in many divorces involves the living situations and day-to-day lives of the children. Although the court encourages divorcing couples to create the parenting plan on their own before courtroom litigation begins, the plan itself must be fair and equitable in the eyes of the court, which will have to approve it before it becomes official.

  • Child support: Once the plan is made for the personal care and living situation of the children, the next step is to provide for their financial support. Generally, the court will simply use the Florida Child Support Guidelines to calculate the amount of support that will be required. There are circumstances, however, in which the court can deviate from these guidelines.
  • Enforcements and modifications: After a divorce is final, one of the parties might not be living up to the terms of the divorce decree. Other times, circumstances change. A new job, the loss of a job, changes in a child's needs and other substantial changes in circumstances can require changes in the divorce decree. We represent clients in enforcement and contempt of court proceedings, as well as modification proceedings.

Collaborative Divorce

One of the best ways we can benefit our clients is by minimizing the cost, time and stress of traditional litigation. We represent clients in collaborative divorce, an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) method intended to help clients come to agreement on the divorce-related issues outside of the courtroom.
